Rhodes has expanded its virtual instrument lineup with the release of the Wurli plugin, a faithful digital recreation of the iconic Wurlitzer electric piano. This instrument produces its signature sound through hammers striking metal reeds, and the plugin specifically emulates the legendary 200A model.
The Wurlitzer 200A has been featured in timeless hits such as Ray Charles’ What’d I Say, Marvin Gaye’s I Heard It Through the Grapevine, and Queen’s You’re My Best Friend. Rhodes’ new plugin aims to capture this historic tone for modern musicians and producers.
Dan Goldman, Chief Product Officer at Rhodes, explained, “As part of our growing collection of classic instruments, we’re excited to present our own interpretation of this iconic reed-based electric piano. Sampled by the same expert team behind the Rhodes V8 and Anthology plugins, the Rhodes Wurli elevates the 200A’s musicality and playability. When paired with Anthology’s powerful sound-shaping tools, effects, and user-friendly interface, it delivers a raw, warm, and beautifully expressive experience.”
The Rhodes Wurli runs on the same engine as the Rhodes Anthology plugin, which includes virtual versions of four classic Rhodes models: the MK1 Stage 73 (1976), Sparkletop 73 (1965), MKV 73 (1984), and MK7 73 (2010).
Built on this robust platform, the Wurli plugin features an interface that mirrors the original Wurlitzer’s design, complete with rotary dials and retro LED indicators. In addition to standard effects such as delay, chorus, and reverb, users can also manipulate sound with unique tools. The Timbre Shift control lets players explore different sonic eras of the instrument, while the Vibrato function recreates the warm character of the vintage hardware circuit.
The Rhodes Wurli plugin is now available for purchase in VST, AU, and AAX formats via the Rhodes Music online store. A limited-time 30 percent discount is offered until June 30.
