Jim Root Says “Inspiration Is Nearly Zero” — Slipknot Fans Shouldn’t Expect New Music Soon

by Adele

Since the release of The End, So Far in 2022, Slipknot fans have been eagerly awaiting the band’s next musical chapter. While excitement continues to build around the long-rumored Look Outside Your Window album—recorded during the All Hope Is Gone sessions—guitarist Jim Root has poured cold water on hopes for any newly written material appearing in the near future.

Percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan previously confirmed to NME that Look Outside Your Window is indeed on its way, saying last year, “Management has it and it is coming out.” However, in a recent interview with Guitar Interactive (via Blabbermouth), Jim Root made it clear that fresh Slipknot music isn’t currently on the horizon.

When asked whether the band has been working on new material, Root answered candidly: “Not diligently.” He explained, “Honestly, we’ve been touring so much since [drummer] Eloy [Casagrande] joined the band that my inspiration is nearly zero. And there’s a bunch of music that was written during Covid that I’m not interested in.”

Root went on to say that the rest of the band seems to feel similarly. “I think everybody else in the band gets it too, and I think they’re kind of, like, ‘Okay, we need to maybe sweep all that shit under a rug and start fresh.’”

What Jim Root seems to want most is a break. “I wanna get touring behind us,” he said. “I wanna have at least a month off just to shut my brain off and sleep and all that kind of stuff. And then when I find myself going out to my little home studio and putting riffs together, then I’ll know it’s time to start.”

While fans may be disappointed by the delay in new creations, Look Outside Your Window remains a hopeful prospect for those craving unreleased Slipknot work—albeit not a product of recent inspiration.

In lighter news, Jim Root recently became the subject of a humorous shipping error. A Sweetwater customer was surprised to learn that their order had been accidentally delivered to the Slipknot guitarist. The customer received an email from the retailer explaining, “Hey [name redacted], you might laugh a little. For some reason, the post office shipped your guitar to Jim Root of Slipknot. We are working on the solution now.”

Though the band may not be writing new material just yet, Slipknot continues to stay in the spotlight—onstage and in the headlines.
