German violinist Christian Tetzlaff has canceled his upcoming performance at Symphony Center this fall, as announced by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association on Tuesday.
Tetzlaff, who was scheduled to lead a recital at 3 p.m. on October 5 as part of the Symphony Center Presents Chamber Music series, will no longer be performing. Ticketholders have been notified of the cancellation, and those seeking more information can contact patron services at 312-294-3000.
The announcement confirmed that “Tetzlaff will not be traveling to the United States during the 2025/26 Season.”
The renowned violinist, along with his Tetzlaff Quartet, has decided to cancel U.S. performances in protest against the policies of former President Donald Trump, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle. Tetzlaff was among the first prominent international artists to publicly boycott the U.S. in response to Trump’s administration, The New York Times reported.
In a similar move, the Michelada Festival in Chicago, scheduled for the summer of 2025, was recently canceled after several Latin American musical headliners withdrew, citing concerns about visas and travel to the U.S. amid the political climate under Trump’s rule.
