Pirastro Launches Evah Pirazzi Neo: New Violin Strings Co-Developed with Janine Jansen

by Adele

Pirastro has officially unveiled its latest innovation in violin strings: the Evah Pirazzi Neo, created in close collaboration with world-renowned Dutch violinist Janine Jansen.

Scheduled for release in late June or early July, the Evah Pirazzi Neo strings will be available both in stores and online. According to Pirastro, this new set delivers strong low-frequency power and volume, brilliance and focus across the entire tonal range, and a quick, direct response. Pricing is expected to be on par with the Evah Pirazzi (green set with gold-plated E), which retails in the U.S. for approximately $120.

Janine Jansen shared her impressions of the new strings, stating, “The new Evah Pirazzi Neo strings offer an optimal balance of stability, flexibility, power, warmth, and core.” She further described the strings as “malleable in sound, powerful, centered, noble, and luminous.” Jansen also praised their ease of use, noting that they tune very quickly, feel comfortable under the fingers, and are performance-ready right from installation.

Pirastro emphasized that close collaboration with musicians is essential in developing new orchestral string products. In this project, working directly with Jansen led to the development of new string manufacturing techniques.

“Understanding what musicians truly need is our starting point for every string set,” explained Adrian Müller, Technical Director at Pirastro GmbH, headquartered in Offenbach, near Frankfurt, Germany. “The in-depth partnership with Janine Jansen encouraged us to adopt a completely new approach to the production process.”

Müller described the Evah Pirazzi Neo as a synthetic core string engineered for outstanding tuning stability, allowing it to be played almost immediately after installation. He highlighted the set’s high projection and carrying capacity, attributing it to a unique construction and carefully selected materials. The specially gold-coated E-string enhances the depth and brilliance of the entire set. According to Müller, the strings offer a rich overtone spectrum with strong fundamental tones, delivering a powerful and clear sound—without increasing string tension.

The Evah Pirazzi Neo violin string set will be available in medium tension and includes the following:

E-string: Goldsteel with a removable ball end, 26.8 gauge

A-string: Synthetic core with aluminum winding

D-string: Synthetic core with silver winding

G-string: Synthetic core with silver winding

The set will also feature Pirastro’s new eco-friendly, recyclable cardboard packaging.
