Jen Majura Steps Away from Music Industry, Citing Disillusionment with Modern Values

by Adele

Three years after parting ways with the rock band Evanescence, guitarist Jen Majura has announced her decision to leave the music industry entirely.

In a heartfelt message posted on Instagram, Majura explained that she feels increasingly out of sync with the current state of the music world. She cited “today’s attitude and values” and an “overwhelming amount of ridiculousness” in the industry as major reasons behind her decision.

“After careful consideration, observing what’s going on in the music industry, AI-related developments and change in society I’ve come to the conclusion to step away,” she wrote.

Majura admitted that she has felt this disconnection for some time and no longer wants to waste energy hoping for renewed passion and inspiration.

“Instead of wasting another year of my life constantly hoping for new energy, drive and creativity, I’ve reached a point in my life where I can confidently lean back in peace,” she shared.

Reflecting on her musical journey, Majura expressed gratitude for the experiences she’s had over the years, including tours, performances, and travel. However, she emphasized that the world—and the industry—has changed, making it clear that she’s ready to move on.

“While time allowed me, I was able to collect an amazing amount of beautiful experiences, tours, shows, travels and moments! I am grateful for every bit of that, but the world has changed. I can [now] confidently make up my mind to stop.”

Although she is stepping back, Majura left the door open for potential music-making in the future. Still, she underscored that the current environment in the industry no longer feels healthy or fulfilling for her.

“I am not saying that I will never create any music again, whether recorded or live,” she clarified. “But for now I feel there are healthier and better things to fill my life with good vibes and not deal with the overwhelming amount of ridiculousness that comes with the music industry nowadays.”

“I just can’t identify with today’s attitude and values anymore.”

Majura also took a moment to wish her fellow musicians well, stating:

“I wholeheartedly want to wish all the ambitious and remaining ‘creators’, young and old, all the best. With time, the meaning will become clearer.”

As a thank-you to her loyal fans, Majura shared a parting gift: four previously unreleased demo tracks that she co-wrote with guitarist Dennis Hormes over a decade ago.

“I found these old demo recordings while cleaning out stuff from my computer and thought they are too good to not be shared,” she wrote. “So if you made it this far and read the whole post, I assume you actually are someone that truly cares and these four singles are for you!”

Jen Majura’s departure marks the end of a chapter, not just in her personal journey but also for fans who have followed her work since her days with Evanescence. Whether she returns to music in some form or not, her decision reflects a growing conversation about the changing dynamics of the modern music landscape.
