Noel Gallagher’s Guitar Fetches £24,000 at Auction Ahead of Oasis Reunion

by Adele

An acoustic guitar once owned and played by Noel Gallagher has been sold for £24,000 at an auction in California. The instrument, a Grand-Suzuki Hummingbird, was used by the Oasis guitarist just seven months before the band’s breakup in 2009.

Originally valued at around £500 when Gallagher acquired it, the guitar gained historical and sentimental value due to its association with the iconic British band. Noel played the guitar backstage before a concert in Amsterdam in January 2009. The guitar, signed by Gallagher himself, was sold on Saturday, May 31, for £24,028 ($32,500), according to a report by What’s The Jam.

The sale was conducted by Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles and included a wide selection of Oasis memorabilia. The guitar’s listing described it as “a photo-matched Grand-Suzuki Hummingbird guitar, used and owned by Noel Gallagher during his time in iconic British band Oasis.”

The listing also confirmed that the guitar was part of Gallagher’s personal collection and had been used for backstage warm-ups and jam sessions. Notably, the wear near the sound hole and distinctive patterns on the pickguard match those visible in a photograph taken by Mick Hutson during the Amsterdam concert on January 21, 2009. The guitar also bears Noel Gallagher’s signature on the back of the headstock in silver felt tip pen.

The final bid exceeded the auction house’s original estimate of £22,178 ($30,000), making the guitar one of the standout items in the sale.

The auction also featured several other pieces of memorabilia connected to Oasis. Handwritten lyrics from the band’s 1995 album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? attracted strong interest. Lyrics to classics such as “Don’t Look Back in Anger” and “Champagne Supernova,” which were expected to sell for around £5,911 ($8,000), ultimately went for £16,552 ($22,400).

Other items included Liam Gallagher’s vintage Gianni Versace jacket, which was purchased for £1,200 ($1,625), and a 1996 promotional poster that sold for £336 ($455). Signed photographs were also popular, fetching £288 ($390), while a pair of Noel Gallagher’s brown trousers sold for £277 ($375).

The auction comes at a significant moment for Oasis fans, as Noel and Liam Gallagher are reportedly reuniting for a tour next month. The brothers, known for their tumultuous relationship, have reportedly been rehearsing at a secret location in London in preparation for the upcoming performances.

The timing of the auction and the renewed activity surrounding Oasis has reignited excitement among fans of the legendary Britpop band.
