Hatebreed Guitarist Wayne Lozinak Diagnosed with Benign Brain Tumor, Leaves European Tour for Surgery

by Adele

Hatebreed guitarist Wayne Lozinak has been diagnosed with a non-cancerous brain tumor, prompting him to leave the band’s ongoing UK and European tour to undergo surgery in the United States. The tumor, identified as a benign meningioma, was discovered after Lozinak showed stroke-like symptoms at the Download Festival in the UK. Following this, he sought immediate medical evaluation and tests when the band reached Lille, France.

On Tuesday, June 17, Hatebreed announced the situation on Instagram, stating, “We appreciate all the love and support from fans, friends, and the music community during this time. Further updates will be shared as appropriate. Thank you for respecting Wayne’s privacy as he begins this journey toward full health.”

The band also confirmed that touring bassist Matt Bachand will take over guitar duties for the remainder of the tour, with Carl Schwartz (First Blood, Terror) stepping in as bassist. Lozinak, a founding member of Hatebreed since 1994, is committed to returning to the band after his recovery.
