Diana Adamyan Unveils Powerful New Recording of Bach’s Chaconne

by Adele

VC Artist and acclaimed violinist Diana Adamyan has released a striking new studio recording and video of the Chaconne from J.S. Bach’s Violin Partita No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004.

Composed between 1718 and 1720, the Chaconne is the concluding and most expansive movement of the second partita. Many scholars believe Bach wrote the piece in response to the sudden death of his wife, Maria Barbara, a theory that adds emotional weight to the already profound composition.

Renowned composer Johannes Brahms once expressed awe for the Chaconne, writing to Clara Schumann: “On one stave, for a small instrument, the man writes a whole world of the deepest thoughts and most powerful feelings.” He admitted that if he had imagined composing such a work, “the excess of excitement and earth-shattering experience would have driven me out of my mind.”

Adamyan expressed her excitement about the project via social media:

“I’m beyond thrilled to finally share with you my recording of BACH’s Chaconne — a project close to my heart, created in collaboration with Armenian National Music!”
She continued, “Thank you to everyone who stood by me on this journey! This recording is the result of incredible teamwork, and I’m truly grateful to have shared these past months with such talented and supportive people. The single is now available on all major streaming platforms!”

Alongside Bach’s Chaconne, Adamyan also recorded the solo violin arrangement of Francisco Tárrega’s technically demanding and expressive Recuerdos de la Alhambra.

Currently residing in Germany, Adamyan first captured global attention by winning first prize at both the 2018 Menuhin Competition and the Khachaturian International Competition. Her burgeoning career has since included solo appearances with leading orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Bruckner Orchestra Linz, Göttinger Symphonieorchester, Uppsala Chamber Orchestra, Niederbayerische Philharmonie, and the Staatsorchester Darmstadt, among others.

Adamyan’s international recital performances span stages across the United States, Tokyo, and France, and she has participated in prestigious festivals like the Aspen Music Festival, Seiji Ozawa Academy, and the Matsumoto International Music Festival.

A graduate of the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München and the NAC Summer Music School, her musical education has been shaped by prominent mentors including Petros Haykazyan, Ana Chumachenco, Pinchas Zukerman, and Leonidas Kavakos. In 2024, she joined the roster of Askonas Holt for global artist management.
